What is the SOM International On-line Baseball Convention All About?

For the year of 2013, Wolfman Shapiro had two visions. One was to start a new on-line S-O-M Baseball Newsletter, which happened in January of this year (2013) and the other was to bring back the old National S-O-M Conventions (which he and friends ran from 1974-1980 in Illinois) in some form. The result of his second vision is what you are reading now!! Thanks to his partner Marc Wasserman at the Ultra Strat Baseball Newsletter, with their co-partners, Bryan Albin at Pure Strat (a division of the Star Tournaments) along with Star council members Pete Nelson and Gene Abood, we are honored to bring to you this exciting announcement about a grand weekend of a special on-line tournament in October of this year.

The objective of this short article is to give you an overview of the new version of the 1st Annual On-line Baseball Convention we will be holding during the weekend of October 25th through the 27th with the playoffs to crown our champion continuing after this weekend. Again we remind all of you that this will be a tournament played over the internet, you won’t have to leave your home to be a part of it!  You just need the computer game with netplay, the 2012 rosters and a good internet connection.

We, the coordinators of the convention, acknowledge and give great thanks of gratitude for the assistance from STAR and PURE STRAT as they are the original organizations who developed the processes to play tournaments over the internet. These two organization are guiding us how to run the big tournament we are holding which you have the option to participate in. At this early junction we strongly recommend that you sign up for our free Convention Newsletter so you can be kept informed of all the latest news and updates. Or if you are as excited as we are, why not officially register at the low fee of just $10 to reserve your spot in the tournament for this weekend of the Convention (note: you can do so on this website, see the right side bar or column on any page, as we use paypal to collect the registration fee).

Now, collectively we (the main partner groups supporting this grand event) have decided to call ourselves the “STRAT ALLIANCE”, but actually this organization has existed before through Mr. Wasserman’s effort as a network of baseball leagues. We were hoping to use the free communications program called “Skype” to run the tournament as Pure Strat does in their tournaments but most people are not familiar with this method yet so we elected to use “Netplay” with a draft as Star Tournaments offers.
