Star on-line Tournament: Draft 2012 with Netplay

Requirements to Participate in this Tournament

(This first section will discuss exactly what you must have, in order to fully participate in this tournament. This tournament is similar to Tournament I, as far as the rules and such but instead of using Skype you will be using Netplay and the computer will automatically follow all the super advance rules.  Everything you need to prepare for this tournament is contained on this page but if you have any questions feel free to contact us.)

1. 2013 Strat-o-matic Windows Computer Baseball Game version f – this will include the Netplay software which allows you to play your opponents over the internet.

2. The 2012 Baseball Roster which run on the computer, you do not need the fringe players for this tournament, due to the usage rules of eligibility.

3. A fast internet connection. The ability to be both the visiting or home team (also known as the hosting team). Some people have had a problem being the hold team because of a way to allow a certain channel for data to flow through the internet connection (or via your router). We will provide a document shortly that will explain what help to ask from your internet provider to allow you to host games.

Quick Summary for how this Tournament will be Played.

1. The Tournament Director (TD) will setup all the participants into small divisions of 8 to 16 managers.

2. The TD of each division will contact the members the week before the convention to use an on-line dice roll to determine your pick in the draft. The higher the roll on the die the better you chance to get the draft pick you wish. After all the draft picks have been decided, again depending on how many divisions have been created, a weeknight between Monday through Wednesday will be selected to conduct the draft which will use an online drafting system called stratdraft. Each member of the division, will have done preparation to decide who they will draft (Note – this includes extra documents supplied by Star Tournaments and the DSIM program). Each person when it is their turn will have 1 minute for their pick. You will draft 25 players and one stadium. The rule handbook (available shortly) will tell which players are available and player usage.

3. The TD will schedule before (Saturday or Sunday of the Convention weekend, which day your tournament runs) the tournament begins who your first opponent will be. You will have a few days to study the team you drafted and the teams that exist within your division.

4. On the day of the tournament, each round will consist of 3 games. As indicated in the rules, you will need at least a 4 man rotation for the entire tournament (although some teams may draft a 5th starter for specific conditions). You will set your rotation of starters with each starter requiring 3 games of rest before he can start again. The winner of each round of this double elimination tournament is the team who wins at least 2 of the 3 games.

5. After each round, the TD needs 15 minutes, to set up the schedule for the next round and send this file out to all the managers in your division. Each manager is responsible for keeping track of the use of their relievers (per rules each reliever can pitch a max of 3 innings per series). We recommend either to write the use of relievers on a page or use a scorecard.

6.4 Rounds or series will be played (12 games) on the day of the tournament with the winner or the prior rounds facing each other and the losers facing each other. If you are eliminated you can still play if you wish against other teams eliminated. Eventually after four rounds, the teams still alive will advance into the playoffs which will be either a 5 or 7 game series, again playing till double elimination, that will take place after this weekend. Since the Ultimate Strat Baseball Newsletter will cover the tournaments, for the championship rounds scoresheets (at least one team will keep) should be taken.

7. Finally one team will emerge as the champion and a second team as a runner-up. These two teams will receive trophies and prizes. The prizes at this time have not yet been determined but when they are known they shall be announced.  The Ultimate Strat Baseball Newsletter request an interview with the champion.

Extra Tools that will Assist Tournament Play.

1. The Tournament Rule Book – this PDF document contains the full details how to play in your tournament and all the rules, that you can study before you participate in the Tournament Draft. To get a copy, click on this link: TournamentII-Rule-Book-SOMC

2. In point #1, in the Rule Book are directions how to setup your computer so you can host (be the home team) for Netplay – if you have a router. You may want to test this out before the tournament as you will have the possibility to be the home team during the tournament.

3. In the Resource Menu, you will final various documents from Star Tournaments which help you prepare for your draft. They show a summary of when each available player is picked in the draft (their average pick number), in which order players are picked by position, which players in the 2012 card set are available to be drafted and example of drafts done by previous tournaments held by Pure Strat and Star Tournaments. We recommend you get a copy of these projects a few weeks before your tournament to study.

4. DSIM 16.0 — this is a simulated program written by Stan Suderman, one of the board members of Star Tournaments that will allow you to run a mock draft and can be using during the real draft to recommend the next players to consider to draft for your team. The only drawback, is that this program only runs on a Windows PC (or simulation) and requires either a DOS mode or early version of Windows like XP. We have found a way to emulate a Windows XP computer on Windows 7 64 bit so the program will run and will supply a document how to do this in the resource section. To obtain a copy of the DSIM 16.0 program, it is an .exe file that unzips into its components go to:

http://studio303.com/star/dsim/dsim160.exe
(in the Resources Menu is a text file that give directions how to run DSIM)
