(1st Annual SOM On-line Baseball Convention)

People have been asking us – how will the
Convention Tournament be Played?

Well we have gone through several scenarios to decide the answer to this question … but before we discuss what we have come up with, listen to what we have gone through so far …

First we thought we should follow the Conventions of the 70’s and switch teams, but how can this be done on-line?  If you try to do it while playing with Netplay it can be a real mess. It would be easier to do it playing with the cards which can be done by Skype as Pure Strat, our partner does but as it turned out, not to many people are familiar playing with Skype and not everyone has the printed cards – SO THIS WON’T WORK!!

Next we thought, ok then lets use Netplay, as no doubt most gamers who have the computer game (which is you read our interview with Adam Rosen from the game company in the October issue of the “Ultimate Strat Baseball Newsletter” you will see) which appears to be more popular than the table game, you automatically get the Netplay software so you can play other gamers online. So probably more people are comfortable with netplay, even though at times it has some challenges during play, we could follow our other partner, Star Tournaments and do a draft of the 2012 roster with Netplay.  But it will take quiet a bit of time to do a draft – from 3 – 8 hours, depending on how many gamers are in the division, so this might not go so smoothly.

But then our Tech Support expert Jack had the answer …

All the Participants play with the same team, an All-Star Team

So this is how the tournament is going to work, as far as we know it has never been done before – but it makes it very easy to play and to prepare and since this is our First Time and its kind of experiment, why not?  We will offer a team of All-Stars, the very best players at every position – we will offer (yet to be determined 35-40 players on this team) and before each round you pick the 25 you wish to play with. We also keep the Ball Park settings (singles, homeruns, etc …) the same as well. Therefore, it now becomes an interesting challenge who will become the champion as we have created a balanced and equal playing field. No one has any advantages over another, everyone has the same choice of players to use.

This means as long as you have the 2012 Major League Baseball Roster for the computer, you can participate and study all the players (a limited set) that everyone else has and probably if you are already doing your own replays, being in other tournaments or in leagues, you already have a feel for what type of card each of the players on this All-Star team has.

Then if we can setup divisions of 8 players each, you play each of your seven opponents a 3 game series with 21 games to play over 2 days, and those teams who qualify for the playoffs are the teams in each division (one or two) with the best records (either by rounds or W-L in games).

How can you say No to such a tournament?

If you are a new and inexperience player – what you will learn about the baseball game in 21 games will change you!!

If you are an experienced veteran player, well then we challenge you to win the whole tournament with your skills if you can!!

We need 16 participants to make this work! Its only 10 bucks to play. Help us make history and begin a new chapter in the History of Strat as we bring the essence of the National Conventions back from the 1970’s by executing this new way to have an enjoyable tournament you can play in the comfort of your home. We need your help and support – join us now. Sign up on this page in the column to your right – and who knows, perhaps you will be the 2013 1st Champion of the Annual SOM On-line Baseball Convention — Think of it!!

Thank you
