Bruce
Bundy's Bio in his own words
(sharing once again a little about Bruce if you
missed the first installment of this column)
Well, I've
played Strat since 1969. I love Strat-O-Matic. I've
played way too many games. I can't stop - yet!
I love our great SOM Community. Some of the things I've
been involved with in the past are:
-->
I published over 30 (up to about 60 now) formulas on
how to create Strat-O-Matic Baseball cards from scratch
and other articles and antics with my friend Glenn
Guzzo's beloved Strat-Fan SOM Magazine.
-->
I ran the official "Strat-O-Matic BBS" Bulletin Board
from 1987 to 1992. At Bob Winberry's
request, I recruited Will Kolodzie's SOMWorld as our
official SOM Online Magazine - and, I also recruited Dan
Patterson for our Official Strat-O-Matic Web Forum.
-->
I am very proud that I have been a Strat-O-Matic Beta
Tester for many years and I am proud of my contributions
to the betterment of our beloved game.
|
-->
My greatest achievement was the creation of the official
"Pitchers' Hitting Cards" for the 2011 season.
-->
I am proud to have been part of my good friends Len Durrant's
and Gary Simond's cardmaking projects. So much not mentioned!
I've met so many great Strat guys through the years!
The Strat-O-Matic Game Company has treated me so wonderfully!
Everybody has treated me beautifully there! I cannot thank them
enough! What a great hobby this has been!
HERE are the
STRAT
THOUGHTS
for August, 2013 by Bruce Bundy
-->
Go for low errors (higher fielding) on the
corners
-->
For a middle infield rule of thumb, a "2e20" is the same as a
"3e10"
-->
Strat has made "3e20" the new average for
SOM infielder
-->
"Hit and Run A" turns the low hitter into
a .270 hitter (.250 as a "B")
-->
With 2 outs, always run home with a 1-8 or
better.
-->
Point of Weakness (POW) is determined by
the average innings per start
(or relief appearance).
-->
Always trade two good players for a great
player.
-->
Mendoza never hit like Ruth, nor Ruth like Mendoza.
-->
Take the hold OFF at "held 55%".
-->
When trading a good player, let the other
guy take chances.
-->
Never IBB in a superstar league (<20
teams).
-->
Good chemistry teams can more often
challenge a pitching change
(pinch hit 1st batter).
-->
Always take advantage of a pitching
change.
-->
Draft what they are not.
-->
Hold up (do not advance) <16 runners with
no out.
-->
Attempt to steal as low as 65% (1-13)
every time - Adjust to luck and taste.
-->
Get any "TOP 10" player at every position.
(Wolfman:
I highly recommend you take a look at Bruce's website, it has
the formulas he shares, some interesting interviews and we
recommend the video blog that he did on small ball of which the
link to view this video is shown below here. I have suggested to
Bruce that if you like this blog, perhaps he might consider to do more videos
in the future.
Also if our readers have specific areas of the Baseball Game
you wish for him to cover, just email us directly and we will
pass this on to Bruce. Or, if you wish to
send Bruce an email again, send it to our email address and we
will make sure he receives your message.)

EARLY SOM
CONVENTIONS COLUMN with WOLFMAN SHAPIRO --
editor of
"The Ultimate Strat Newsletter" and 2012 CBA Champion.
Wolfman takes us back in
this article to the fifth national Strat-o-matic
Convention in 1976 held in Champaign-Urbana, IL, at the
University of Illinois as the Wolfman and his buddies organize
their third convention. Wolfman will be
our guide through the first nine conventions happening through 1980
of which he was present at each one. This particular column now
moves into the 1974-1980
era when the conventions moved to Illinois. We will continue to share one new convention in
each future issue till all of these early conventions are published.
Also as an inspiration for the SOM On-line Baseball Convention
this year.

RECOMMEND
ON-LINE SOM RESOURCES
-- On-line Strat-o-matic and Baseball related websites that offer amazing information, special tools and products to improve
your game play
that we strongly recommend. In most cases, we have had personal contact with
these sources who agree with the principle to work together and help promote each other.
